| Overview: Despite the wonders of modern communications, we live in an age of failed and failing relationships. People talk to others who aren't listening and listen to others who aren't responding. When we speak, we add sub-texts of blame and anger; when we listen, it is with a bitten lip and a feeling of powerlessness. Not only are personal relationships at risk from our inability to communicate well, so are the daily relationships of work teams, customers and suppliers, bosses and subordinates. Learning how to re-communicate is a pressing need in many of our organisations; using the techniques of assertiveness is one of the ways to do it. |
